Attractions:

  • Mount Scott: Enjoy breathtaking panoramic views from the summit of Mount Scott. This iconic peak offers a scenic drive to the top, where you can take in the stunning vistas of the surrounding landscape. You can hike or drive up to the summit. The picture above is one of my favorites from my last visit to this area.

  • Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge: Explore the diverse flora and fauna of the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge. This expansive area is home to bison, elk, and longhorn cattle, as well as numerous hiking trails and picturesque lakes. I recommend stopping at the visitor's center and asking a park ranger about the different hiking trails. We went on a short hike and ran into some wild longhorn cattle. We also spotted bison from the road!

  • The Holy City of the Wichitas: a 66-acre replica of the city of Jerusalem built for an annual live Easter passion play. There are clean restrooms and a gift shop.

  • The Parrel Forrest: this forest was planted with 20,000 red cedar trees exactly 6 feet apart in a grid pattern. It has a reputation for being haunted. Pay attention to where the entrance is because it is easy to get lost.

  • Bath Lake: Relax by Bath Lake, a popular swimming hole formed in the 1920s. Located in the heart of downtown Medicine Park, this lake is perfect for swimming, floating, and enjoying the beautiful scenery. During the summer there is a place to rent floats and get snacks before swimming in the river! There is also a big yellow ducky for a fun photo op!

  • Medicine Park Aquarium & Natural Sciences Center: Discover the wonders of aquatic life and natural sciences at this family-friendly attraction. The aquarium features a variety of exhibits showcasing local and exotic species.

  • Rainbow Trout Fishing; During the winter months, the river is stocked with rainbow trout. You can buy a fishing license online or we went to the Walmart in Lawton.
